Before we can animate a picture, there are many steps that need to be taken to get there. What often starts out as a clear idea usually will go through many transformations until the final edit.
Development is where we start.
"SWORD OF THE SHOGUN" Development art for Dreamworks Television animation. I worked with Greg Wiseman in developing this as a potential series. set in the Edo period of Japan it combined historical fact intermingled with magical fantasy. It would have been a blast to work the designs out to their finished animation.
"X-MEN EVOLUTION" These are some of my original design concepts for the series. I wanted to push the look of the series into a more anime' style. Ultimately Steven Gordan took over the design of the characters and created the beautiful look that the series became known for. Elements of some of my original concepts were later incorporated into Stevens designs.
nfl rush zone
A continuation of the web series of the same name, we needed to update the art and story for a more detailed take on the popular site. The target audience was far more child centric than many of the shows that I have a reputation for. It also gave me a chance to work with the NFL which is always cool but not so much in the way I imagined growing up. below are some of the set pieces I came up with in pitching the concepts to them.
"The Invincible Iron Man" The following images show the progression that we go through in developing background locations for our films at Marvel/LionsGate. They take us from the thumbnail to the the color sketches (Joel Chang colors) The color sketches are "experimented with to cage the effectiveness of how it plays emotionally for the viewers.
I feel very strongly that backgrounds should not just be fillers for the cartoon characters, but need to be characters in and of themselves. They add dramatically to the unfolding story and can be quite effective in the depiction of setting up the characters personality in any assorted scene.

NFL RUSH ZONE For season 3 we introduce a new villain named Stelleria. Stelleria had to be a 3d animated character in order to interact with other 3d characters during fight sequences. This is the evolution of her design.
